Her dentist recommended bonding to close the gap and place a permanent retainer behind her front teeth to prevent further tooth movement. This solution worked well for Michelle at the time. But, with years of wear and tear, the bonding discolored and slowly chipped away. The retainer placed behind her teeth was extremely thick and non-cleansable. Eventually her gums became inflamed and swollen, which made her teeth appear very small. Our plan for Michelle was to remove her faulty retainer, then use laser gum recontouring to create an ideal new gum shape. Upon completion of this step, four porcelain veneers were placed. Finally, the bonded retainer was replaced with a removable Invisalign retainer.
